Manitoba Region – August 2020 Update

Important Up Date for All Manitoba Members of CBC Pensioners Association

With the Covid-19 Pandemic still affecting all our lives and daily routine, your Manitoba Executive thought it would be important to update you since that last Contact letter was sent out earlier this Spring.

As President Denis Collette advised in that newsletter, the 20th Annual AGM scheduled for Toronto this coming October was cancelled, as was the National Board Meetings scheduled for last May.

This past week on Wednesday, August 5, the National Executive Board and the Regional Presidents held a ZOOM conference call.  Here are some of the highlights from that Zoom meeting:

The 2019 financial audited report was approved, and there was some additional discussion and plans discussed to hold the 2021 PNA Triennial Convention in Ottawa from May 17-19, 2021. At the moment it is uncertain if this will definitely take place.

With that in mind, the National Executive Board and Regional Presidents will hold another Zoom conference call on September 23, 2020. The next National Board meeting is scheduled for October 14, 2020 and will be held electronically.

We will be discussing the current plan to hold this year’s 20th Annual AGM electronically on Tuesday, November3, 2020, with members invited to participate electronically through the use of a webinar session.

There will be another Contact newsletter coming out in late September or early October that will overview on how this virtual AGM will be conducted.

And everyone has received a copy of the 2019 CBC Pension Plan report, either via hard copy or electronically. The plan performed very well in 2019 and is still doing well in 2020.

Locally, we unfortunately cannot hold a Fall 2020 luncheon, for obvious reasons and can only hope that as pandemic conditions improve, that we may be able to meet again for a buffet luncheon sometime next year. We can only wait and see what happens.

To add to this update for the Manitoba Region, Yvonne Roy and Frank Machovec are providing some additional information to this document.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Yvonne, Lionel, Ernie or Frank by email or phone.

A Brief Note From The Treasurer

Our local finances are in good shape. I’ll provide a full report at our next face-to-face meeting. We have submitted our 2019 annual financial report to the national office for review.  Generally speaking, our expenses come from communication costs and our local luncheons, and our income comes from the national office and from the proceeds of the Spring and Fall luncheons.

There have been no recent expenses, and we continue to receive our monthly fee rebates from the national office. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at fmachovec@gmail.com.”

ADDITION:

“You can add me to the sick list.  Unfortunately somewhere along the way I was in contact with some asbestos. I now have Mesotheleoma which has no cure.   Mine is very fast moving.

It would be nice to hear from any old CBC friends.  My email is ron_place@yahoo.ca   …  Regards,  Ron Place “

He says he would like to hear from his colleagues now!!
