You Can’t Go Back

You Can’t Go Back

A poem by Len Carter, Cambridge, ON

I spent twenty years of my life traveling
Being everywhere but home.
When Mom passed, I realized that I could never get that time back that could have been
spent with her.
My Father recently passed and I was talking with him on the phone just hours before it
happened.
When you’re young you always think you have time.
You always think there will be another chance.
When my sons visit me now, I hug them all the time.
I treasure every moment with them.
Sometimes I catch myself just staring at them.
You will never be anyone’s baby ever again.
You have lost the only two people that no matter everything you did.
No matter how stupid you acted, No matter what mistakes you made,
They still loved you and cared for you.
It’s a hard lesson to learn.
I regret.
